Mixed languages Appliations in place names:A study based on Arabi-Malayalam literature

Abstract

Toponmy is the scientific study of place names. Toponyms can provide most valuable evidence for the study of human culture and Civilization like history and archaeology. Toponymist  J.J. Egli observe that, “place names derived from the intellectual characteristics of a people reflect their cultural status and development”. This study mainly focuses on the topic ‘mixed languages uses in place names:a study based on ArabiMalayalam literature’. ArabiMalayalam is a script developed to write Malayalam by modifying Arabic letters and its rich in multilingual forms.arabimalayalam acquired the form of a hybrid language which has adopted words from  various languages like Tamil,  Sanskrit, Urdu, Persian, Hindi, Arabic and English. some toponyms  in active arabimalayalam  literature occur in translated forms. This research paper attempts to study the toponyms  that undergo such process of translation.
